Land Ocean

The Outback, the bush. I knew Australia was big, but to my surprise,  a lot of it is nothing. The outback makes up A HUGE part of Australia and most of the population and towns and cities are along the coast. I've never seen so much vast amount of nothing. As the title says, it was like a land ocean.
Sometimes there were small bushes and trees but many times the outback just looked like this..

that black smudge is a fly. not a UFO
And this..

What if you were trapped out here.  What would you do???

Oh yeah, and for some reason. There are Lots of flies,  some parts have more than others. but especially around Coober Pedy.  And those flies attack your face. They will not leave you alone. You Constantly must swat and move and the very split second you stop, your face will be surrounded by flies.
Sometimes they even fly into your nose..

It's a harsh place.
Also, as many people already know, Australia is considered the skin cancer capitol of the world. I've heard many times that there is less ozone particularly in Australia.
And the sun feels Intense! and as you can see, there isn't always a decent amount of shade.

Driving through the outback takes a long time, and looks something like this..

There are quite a bit of these little rest areas..

The outback is definitely worth exploring. There are a few interesting spots in the middle of nowhere.
After driving through a stretch of vast emptiness. We reached a little town called Coober Pedy.
It's in between Adelaide and Alice Springs. And a lot of this small town is underground. They even have an underground bar.
Because of the heat, many residents live underground. And I stayed at an underground hostel.

this is where I slept.
nice place
The surface looked like this..

Coober Pedy is also known for Opals. You can look for them and get some money if you find them. But I didn't find any.

After That, we continued to drive through even more vast amounts of emptiness before being relieved to finally see signs of civilization again in Alice Springs. Which was more developed than anywhere I've seen in the outback. However, it is of course surrounded by a lot of nothing and it is far out in the center of Australia.

And of course there is the the famous Uluru, which was awesome to visit! There is a lot of cliffs and natural beauty in that area. But I'm going to write about Uluru and that area in my next post. This post was mainly to show the looong stretches of Land Ocean that overwhelmed me.

Fucktastic sign in the middle of nowhere
